This is a handmade Afghan rug, from the Ghazni region of Afghanistan. This piece is called a "Mamluk" rug, originated from Afghanistan. Mamluk rug are meant to showcase very classic 1800s designed Turkish & Persian rug. Handmade Mamluk-inspired designs are highly sought after today & many feature the signature intersecting compartments surrounding bold medallions.
