Otsu-E Japanese Woodblock Painting Picture Frame/Vintage Decor

Produktbeschreibung
Beautiful vintage picture frame, featuring a Japanese motif style, known as Otsu-e. Painted by unknown artists & sold as souvenirs to travelers along the Old Tōkaidō Highway, an historic trade route running between Edo (present day Tokyo) & Kyoto in the 17th century. Originally Otsu-e were sold as religious paintings to be hung in the homes of the less wealthy, as objects of worship, but later they expanded into a more humorous or satirical nature. This picture is an authentic one, we've brought back from Japan. This picture features the 3 most famous characters; a wisteria maiden carrying a branch in her arm, a satirical ogre or goblin soliciting donations, & a blind musician. To give a sense of the potential satirical purposes; the blind musician is intended as a warning against being caught unawares, with the loose sash being tugged & chased by a dog representing an unfocused mind. Great condition, with some minimal signs of wear to the frame. Measurements: 52.5 cm x 38 cm x 2 cm. Otsu-E Japanese Woodblock Painting Picture Frame/Vintage Decor
