Amazing French Sevres Paul Milet Vase Cobalt Bleu Lapis & Ormolu-Mounted Bronze

Produktbeschreibung
This is a magnificent French Sevres Paul Milet Vase Cobalt Bleu Lapis & Ormolu-mounted Bronze. Large Sevres Vase designed by Paul Jean Milet (1870-1950) for Paul Milet Pottery at Sèvres, France, circa 1915. Decorated with gilt bronze floral design mounts at the base, center & rim. The vase is marked on bottom with the MP Sevres green round mark. Measures: 9.5 cm high. Please note that a small amount of blue glaze has fallen off the mouth of the small vase! But it does not affect its beauty at all! The earliest ground color used at Vincennes was blue, known as bleu lapis, a reference to the stone, lapis lazuli. It was introduced in 1751, probably to imitate Chinese powdered blue grounds. It is uneven & mottled as it was applied directly onto the unglazed body, with powdered cobalt added as a colorant, before glazing & firing. in the 1770s, it was known as 'gros bleu' (dark blue). The manufacture Ceramique D'Art was established ca. in 1867 by Felix Optat Milet. His father & brother worked for the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres. Felix began to learn about porcelain production in the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres in 1855 & some years later he became a modeler for the factory. in 1879 Felix Optat Milet left the national manufacture & focused on developing his own business. He won a gold medal at the 1889 World Fair in Paris. His son Paul Milet gained ceramicist experience working with father. He gradually took over management of the manufacture. Paul won a gold medal at the 1900 World Fair in Paris. Paul's son, Henri Milet, also worked for the family factory in Sèvres. He took over the running of the factory in 1931 & managed it till 1971.
